Clopay Canyon Ridge® Collection Limited Edition Series garage doors will be featured on Season 4 of “The Vanilla Ice Project”, which airs Saturdays at 10 p.m. ET on the DIY Network beginning March 8.

This is the third time Vanilla Ice, whose real name is Rob Van Winkle, has approached residential garage door manufacturer Clopay in search of trendsetting carriage house style doors to maximize the curb appeal of a Florida mansion in need of a top-to-bottom transformation.

Van Winkle, best-known for his “Ice Ice Baby” rap song in 1989, has been a real estate investor for the past 15 years, renovating and flipping homes.

“The Vanilla Ice Project” is a home renovation show that began in 2009. The series follows Van Winkle as he strips down distressed properties to the bare bones and reimagines them for resale in the Palm Beach real estate market. Each episode focuses on a new room and new project – from custom woodwork and kitchen design, to exterior remodeling and pool renovation.

Audiences who have tuned in to the series during previous seasons may be surprised by the style of this house. Van Winkle is partial to the Canyon Ridge Collection faux wood carriage house style garage doors because of their realistic beauty and low-maintenance durability. But the traditional architecture forced him to choose a different design and cladding species than he has used in the past. Clopay dealer Broten Garage Door managed the installation.

Season 4 of “The Vanilla Ice Project” will chronicle the 3,000 sq. ft. mansion makeover over nine weeks beginning March 8. For episode details and air times, visit the DIY Network at http://www.diynetwork.com/the-vanilla-ice-project/show/index.html.

Residential home builders are placing a greater emphasis on product performance for the brands they use, according to Buildermagazine’s 2014 Brand Use Study.

That’s good news for Clopay. The company’s garage doors were rated number one in quality in the survey that appears in the magazine’s April issue.

Indepedent market research firm Readex interviewed 74,669 builders, builder/developers and general contractors to measure brand familiarity, use, and preference in 69 different product categories.

Builders ranked product performance as the most important factor in selecting a garage door brand, followed by warranty, price, availability, ease of installation, manufacturer’s reputation, and the builder’s relationship with the installing dealer.

Clopay offers an extensive portfolio of overhead sectional garage doors constructed in wood, steel, composite, and glass. Styles include historical carriage house designs, contemporary, and traditional raised panel looks. Since 1996, Clopay is the only residential garage door brand to earn the Good Housekeeping Seal.

PR_red_3720

Cincinnati, OH. Clopay residential steel and commercial overhead garage doors can now be factory-finished in over 1,800 colors, thanks to the company’s new Color Blast custom paint program.

The Color Blast process uses Sherwin Williams Solar Reflective Polane® paint, a professional grade, two-part polyurethane based “cool paint” that provides a durable, high-quality finish and lowers surface temperatures to reduce the damaging effects of high heat that can occur on steel doors. The paint also contains a hardener for extra protection.

Clopay’s Color Blast paint system exceeded 3,000 hours of salt spray and humidity testing prior to being introduced to customers. The finish has a five-year warranty and also meets Florida’s five-year exposure requirements.

Color Blast is available on Clopay’s Avante, Gallery®, and Classic residential garage door lines, as well as on all commercial steel overhead sectional doors. Matching window frames are offered on Clopay residential garage doors.

June is “Garage Door Safety” Month

The garage door is the largest moving part on your home and perhaps the hardest working, being raised and lowered an average of four times per day. And, like any other area of the home, it requires regular maintenance and repair to keep it in good working order

June is “Garage Door Safety Month,” and garage door manufacturer Clopay Building Products is reminding homeowners that summer is a good time to perform safety inspections and “tune-ups” on their garage doors. A professional should inspect and make any repairs, but here are a few things that homeowners should watch for:

• Check that the door opens and closes smoothly. If not, the springing system may need to be adjusted or replaced.
• Look for loose brackets on the garage door. Because they are under tension, they can cause serious injury if loosened or removed.
• Gauge the age of your garage door springs. They, too, are tightly wound and can cause damage or injury if they wear out and break.
• Check for any frayed or worn cables.
• Make sure the opener’s automatic reversal is working. To test a garage door opener, place a roll of paper towels under the door, and lower it. When the door hits the towels, it should reverse. If it doesn't, have it checked.
• Teach children about garage door safety. Place the control switch for the garage door opener at least 5' above the floor so that small children can't reach it; remind them that the garage door opener is not a toy.

An annual visit from a trained garage door technician can keep your door operating safely and smoothly. For more garage door safety and maintenance advice, visit www.clopaydoor.com.

Clopay Commercial Products is now offering 3-D B.I.M. (Building Information Modeling) online for its 903 series, 3200 series, 3700 series, and 500 series doors.

The software enables architects, specifiers and engineers to render a building in 3-D in order to identify interference areas that often go undetected in 2-D drawings. As a result, the issues can be addressed in advance, eliminating costly change orders and project delays once the job is underway.

All B.I.M. models are parametric in design, which allows characteristics like door size and track option to be easily adjusted within the model to ensure that proper clearances are maintained in accordance with Clopay specifications.

The model also contains a convenient direct link to Clopay written specifications so specifiers can easily and accurately describe the Clopay door best suited to the application.

Clopay B.I.M. files are created using the 2011 version of Autodesk Revit Architecture® and are available at www.clopaydoor.com/commercial-door-products

Clopay black garage doors win HANDY Innovation Award

Cincinnati, OH --

Clopay’s black steel garage door with “cool paint” technology is one of 20 new products to be recognized with a 2014 HANDY Innovation Award.  Now in its 14th year, the HANDY Innovation Awards honor products that showcase initiative, creativity, invention, reinvention and eco-innovation.

Clopay earned an Honorable Mention for bringing classy back to the steel garage door color wheel.

HANDY editor Jenny Stanley said, “Keeping up with color trends is fun, especially when the color is rich, classy black. But sometimes, outdoor surfaces like a garage door can't handle the deep hue because it absorbs too much heat...until now. Thanks to Clopay’s new thermal-reflective paint technology, its Gallery® Collection and Classic Line steel garage doors are available in rich, glossy black so homeowners can keep up with the sophisticated color trend.”

The 2014 Innovation Award-winning products will be featured in the Winter 2014 issue of HANDY Magazine, as well as in the HANDY TOOLBOX e-newsletter and at www.HandymanClub.com.

Clopay Patented T-Strut
CINCINNATI, OH

Garage door manufacturer Clopay today announced that its new tapered strut design (T-Strut) has been awarded a U.S. Design Patent No. US D719,280 S.

The T-Strut design makes installation of Clopay’s Storm-Ready® WindCode® garage doors faster and easier. Doors with the new T-Strut design take up less space, providing homeowners with more usable area in the garage.

Clopay has been at the forefront of developing reinforced garage doors that meet and exceed the revised building codes. In the fall, the company introduced impact windows rated up to W-6 for Clopay 1-3⁄4" Intellicore® commercial Models 3717 and 3718.

With the addition of the new T-Strut design, Clopay now has 33 Miami-Dade County product approvals, 60 TDI (Texas) approvals, and over 400 Florida product approvals.

Clopay WindCode® garage doors are Storm-Ready®, meaning there is no need to add a post or additional reinforcement to secure the door. Reinforcement is built into the structure of the door and is engaged by simply locking it, a timesaving convenience in the event of a sudden evacuation notice.

This type of door is particularly beneficial to vacation home and rental property owners because they have peace of mind knowing that the garage door is secure as long as it’s locked.

Clopay Avante - House of Bryan

CINCINNATI (April 24, 2015) – Clopay recently partnered with residential construction expert and television host Bryan Baeumler on a custom home project featured on HGTV Canada’s top-rated series “House of Bryan 3.”

“House of Bryan” chronicles Bryan and his family as they juggle the day-to-day life of running a construction business while also building their own home.

In the third season of the show, Bryan and his wife Sarah decide to uproot their family from the city and build their forever home on 16 acres of countryside north of Toronto.

The series documents the decisions the couple faces when it comes to managing their vision and their budget. It also reveals the unexpected setbacks even a seasoned professional can encounter when working and living on a busy construction site.

Baeumler’s custom country home is best described as a contemporary lodge with lots of windows to take advantage of the gorgeous wooded views.

"The garage doors are such a huge feature of the exterior design that a boring, standard door design just wouldn't do it justice,” says Bryan. He contacted Clopay about Avante Collection glass garage doors after construction was underway.

Clopay dealer CarWal Door Systems Limited installed two 20’ x 8’ doors with etched glass panels. The 2-1/8” thick commercial grade aluminum frames were powder-coated a custom color to match the windows, which had already been installed.

“Clopay’s Avante Collection glass doors are the perfect blend of form and function. They look incredible, operate smoothly, and allow a ton of natural light into the garages while giving us needed privacy," adds Baeumler.

“House of Bryan 3” recently finished airing in Canada and will air in syndication on HGTV in the U.S. later this year. Watch full episodes of the series online.

Designer Vicki Payne Highlights Latest Garage Door Design Trends and Technology on PBS Television Series “For Your Home"

Coachman Collection Garage Doors

Clopay® partnered with dealer Cox Door Company in Indian Trail, N.C. to install a Coachman® Collection garage door as part of a whole house renovation project featured on “For Your Home” (FYH), one of the longest running national home and garden television series airing on PBS.

This season, design expert and show host Vicki Payne tackles a whole house remodeling project for clients who want to update their 1980s Charlotte, North Carolina home with contemporary details.

Payne used Clopay’s Door Imagination System to show the homeowners three different garage door design options, which included a flush panel steel door, the Avante Collection glass garage door, and the Coachman Collection carriage house door.

“While they loved the striking appearance of the glass door, they felt it didn’t fit with the style of the other houses on the block,” says Payne. The garage door is the first thing guests see when they approach the house, so it was important to set the stage for the clean lines and earth tones present throughout the home. A very simple design in the Coachman Collection turned out to be the winning choice.

“Carriage house garage doors aren’t just for historic homes. Vicki’s project shows that it can be a great solution to warm up a contemporary or transitional exterior if you choose a simple panel style,” says Clopay senior product manager Justin Evans, who appeared on the show with Vicki to talk about the garage door features and benefits. “Adding large rectangular windows also gave the door a more modern feel.”

The Coachman Collection door operates with the convenience of a LiftMaster® Model 8550 opener with MyQ® technology.

“For Your Home” airs on PBS stations nationwide. Check your local listings for dates and times. Episode 3009 “Storage Solutions” featuring both Clopay and LiftMaster products can also be viewed online at http://foryourhome.com/episode/3009-storage-solutions/.

Vanilla Ice Project - Clopay Garage Doors

Vanilla Ice is back to tackle his toughest Florida flip ever in Season 5 of “The Vanilla Ice Project” on DIY Network. The pop icon and knock-out home renovator has taken his biggest risk yet, investing in a high-dollar lakefront dump in need of a top-to-bottom transformation. That means ripping rooms to the studs, adding a boat dock with a tiki hut, and turning the outdated garage into one any auto enthusiast would love, replete with new garage doors, a car carousel, and a wall of cultured stone.

Clopay and Broten Garage Doors installed four Canyon Ridge® Collection Limited Edition Series garage doors on the Florida mansion. This is the fourth time the manufacturer and distributor have partnered with rapper turned home renovator “Vanilla Ice”, a.k.a. Rob Van Winkle.

Every project Rob does features the state-of-the-art technology and mouth-watering building products and décor, but it isn’t just eye-candy. Rob knows great curb appeal is what brings buyers in the door, so he focuses as much energy on creating an appealing exterior as he does on wowing prospects once they get inside.

Van Winkle selected Clopay stained faux wood carriage house doors with Clear Cypress cladding and overlays. The doors are a perfect solution for the coastal Florida environment because they won’t rot, warp, or crack. Featuring a five-layer thick construction with Intellicore® insulation technology, the doors are incredibly durable and secure. They are also built to withstand 150 M.P.H. windows, thanks to Clopay’s WindCode® reinforcement.

In true “Ice” fashion, no garage door is complete without the appropriate amount of bling. The doors are finished with wrought iron decorative hardware.

Other unforgettable features on this 6,000 sq. ft. home include the man-cave garage with custom art on the epoxy floor, a workout and beverage station, and a car turn-around built into the driveway.

The Vanilla Ice Project airs on the DIY Network Saturdays at 10 p.m. ET. Watch episodes online at http://www.diynetwork.com/shows/the-vanilla-ice-project.

Clopay® Introduces Triple Wall Polycarbonate Glazing Option on Commercial Full-View Aluminum Models

$

Triple wall polycarbonate doors

Clopay is introducing a 16mm (5/8”) triple wall polycarbonate glazing option for its commercial Model 902 and 903 doors and two-inch full-vision sections.

Polycarbonate panels offer several qualities that make it an attractive alternative to glass for commercial building applications designed to maximize natural daylight transmission indoors like automotive dealerships and repair shops, carwashes, warehouses, greenhouses, chemical facilities, and animal shelters. It is also a good option for coastal business owners concerned about mitigating the effects of high humidity, corrosion, and impact damage from storms.

Polycarbonate is durable and lightweight, which significantly reduces wear and tear on the door over time, compared to glass. It also allows for more design flexibility since it can be cut to size and reduces the need for extensive supporting structures.

The multi-wall construction of the panels creates an insulating air space within the internal channels, significantly reducing the transfer of heat or cold through the glazed portion of the door to maintain a consistent temperature indoors. The exterior UV coating minimizes fading from prolonged exposure to the sun, rain and snow.

Polycarbonate is virtually indestructible, reducing the risk of damage or breakage from falling ice or hail. The material can also withstand extreme temperature shifts, wind, and building movement without cracking or splitting.

Clopay’s triple-wall polycarbonate is available in clear and tinted panels supported by a durable, 2-1/8-inch thick, through bolted, aluminum frame. Capped tongue and groove joints and a vinyl bottom weather seal keep out the elements.

Frame colors include: clear, bronze, or black anodized, prefinished white or brown paint, or custom coatings to match your building design with Clopay’s new Colorblast® paint system.

Technology for technology's sake? Not for us. To be of benefit, a technology needs to solve common problems, save energy and money, and help us be efficient with our time.
